My May Post....

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

On Monday 2nd June 2008 I published my very first Scarlet Blue post, it consisted of a title and five words. I started as I meant to go on. It is HERE. My first posts veered towards the fictional... but they were unselfconscious because I didn't expect anyone to ever read them. I was just messing around. The internet was a little bit smaller; Facebook and Twitter were places I had no intention of visiting; Tumblr wasn't on my radar; MySpace was messy; Wordpress was complicated, and Google+,Pinterest, Instagram, didn't even exist. In June 2008 Blogspot was where everyone was at... a bit like a very popular pub.
I remember the day I wrote that first post, it was sunny and I was up in the attic where the computer was based... and I thought to myself - this is going to be my thing, a secret place where I will write silly made up stuff and I will never tell anyone about it, not ever [that thought lasted about an hour]. It felt safe... but a little bit daring.. and fresh... and strangely private. How things change!!!? I miss the early excitement I had about Blogger... and it was exciting when I started interacting with other bloggers, I don't think we ever get that type of initial excited feeling back - it is a one time only feeling. I'm glad I had the experience.
In comparison with 2008, 2014 feels like a social networking bog... over crowded and sucking me down, sometimes I think I join new places just to see if I can get the buzz that I originally got from Blogger, from here. I never do.

Here is a tune to help me celebrate my upcoming bloggy birthday.

The lyrics say it all. And sheep and German Shepherd Dogs have loomed large in my life.

Happy Bloggy Birthday ... and many more!

I like to think of blogging has having pen pals. That is, an opportunity to meet some very interesting people from all over the world that I would never otherwise have known. I have also had the honor and privilege to have met some of them in person.

Mr Lax: Thank you! Same here! And I am hoping to meet a few more... including you!

Darling Ms S,

We wish you a very Happy Blogiversary and marvel at the fact that you are still here some 6 years on. A spectacular achievement!

The virtual landscape has indeed changed over the past six years and we have to admit that some of the technological developments you mention here are still a foreign country to us. Perhaps the thrill of discovery is still waiting for us?

We can empathise absolutely with what you say here but we remain grateful for the opportunities to connect that our blog has offered. We have met virtually and in real life many intriguing people who we should never have even come across otherwise. We are more knowledgeable about some parts of the world than we ever imagined. We have been spurred on to travel by our blogging chums and, perhaps most strangely, we have met real friendship from virtual friends of a depth and intensity that we would never have imagined. And, darling Ms S, we found you.

Many, many happy returns!!

Ah, those were the days!

My poor little blog gets sadly neglected now in favour of FaceBook, because although I hate FB it's easy and so many friends have gone there.

What it isn't, is anonymous. I used to like feeling I was hiding out on the net and only a few privileged people really knew who I was. Those days are no more.

You're here, I'm here, and all our bloggy pals are here, so what's to worry about, sweet pea! Ebb and flow, you write, I'll read! xoxoxox Happy Blog-o-versary!!

Ms Scarlet said...

Thank you! You are the BestHats!
I have had some wonderful opportunities since I've been blogging!
Some of the other networking sites can get a little impersonal in comparison with blogging... they can sometimes be ugly, or bland.
This is home.

Ms Norma: Thank you! I often forget. I forgot last year... so I will celebrate my 5th when I am ten.

Ms Fairy: Yes, that's what I miss - that feeling of anonymity and secrecy! That feeling of racing through the blogosphere on roller skates, wearing a pink tutu, and ribbons in my hair....

Savvy: It really is excellent when everyone touches base! One of my most fun blogging evenings was here...

Remember this?!

I had no expectations when I started blogging either - I'm not sure that I was unselfconscious, though. It took a long time for the words to flow naturally - but when I look back, I'm not sure that my writing style was so very different then, after all. Blogging will always be better than FB or T, I reckon. Happy Blogday.

Google+,Pinterest, Instagram, didn't even exist.

Crikey…reading that makes me feel as old as Norma.

I’m so attached to all my kooky bloggy Bitches now that I couldn’t possibly stop.

The thrill may be gone but the love lingers.

pink tutu, ribbons flying wildly as you roll by - I'm so glad I read the comments and thanks for that fun image.
Happy Blogiversary! Please do a few spins since I'm slow on my feet.

I remember those initial feelings, too. A bit like being in love - exciting to start with, then cosily comfortable. As chance would have it, I'm currently engaged in a bit of time-travel reading though my old posts from 2006. Fun times! Not that these aren't, of course.
I'm so glad we linked. You're one of my very favourite stalwart & stylish flying monkeys! Life over the Cusp just wouldn't be the same without you.

Happy bloggy birthday! x

Congratulations on your anniversary! Although I started blogging as long ago as you, my thrill was MySpace. Until for some bizarre reason "Tom" sold it to Rupert Murdoch, and it became a crock-a-shit. Then I moved here, and never looked back! Jx

PS I loathe FB, and I have no desire to try Tw*atter nor any of 'em - white noise is not what I want; I like the intelligence and wit of bloggers (like your good self)

Happy Blogiversary, Scarlet! All around the world, bloggers are saying they/it/we have changed and should they/we/everyone continue...
I, too, think it's like the old pen-pal times.Blogging has taking me much further than I ever would have expected. And just look at the wonderful people I've met!
Here's to all of us!

Ms Scarlet said...

No, hand on heart, I can honestly say that the itching has been much better this past month...
Sx

....oh, drat... you meant MJ, didn't you?

Ms Scarlet said...

Mr Bill: Oh how I used to fly! All was giddy and fun until I flew head long into the garbage container round the back of Asda.... I twisted my ankle, broke several fingernails and lost two inches in height. Never mind. All is well now apart from the slight limp and a few incomprehensible stains on my night dress.

Ms Scarlet said...

Tony: I thought it was you... although you looked younger in your picture when you left your comment the other day!
Yes, everyone is still around... albeit a little dazed and confused and spread to thinly!

Ms Scarlet said...

*too!

Ms Scarlet said...

Ahhhh! Thank you, Mr Device! I am pleased you are back... I was getting into your blog, but then you stopped. Our posts might be erratic, but they are worth it.
Yes, that's exactly how my blogging started.... exactly like the start of a wonderful love affair! And since the start there has been talk of marriage, huge spats leading to talk of divorce, neglected children in the form of spin off blogs we created on drunken evenings... there has been counselling, rehab, coming and going... it is all here because we are like a virtual family. Pretty amazing really!

Ms Scarlet said...

Hello Jon! And thank you!
There are a couple of bloggers on Facebook I know who need to be captured and directed back to their blogs *glares at Savannah*... they will be thankful for it in the end. I propose to leave daily comments on their dusty blogs until they realise that they will be much happier deactivating their FB accounts.
I grew up with Border Collies... it is only natural that I feel the urge to round them all up and put them back where they should be.

Ms Scarlet said...

Dinah: Thank you! God, yes! Mostly I have had a fantastic time on this here blog... even the odd moments have been a learning curve.
I have been lucky to meet people that I would have had no chance of meeting if I hadn't been blogging!
I will probably be here for a while yet... I have plans... which I will talk about in my next post...

Princess is not reachable (I hope noting serious happened) ; Leni went private ; Mitzi was last seen in the woods with Boris Karloff. Ad Ms. Nations to the list.

And I thought the song is about collecting chairs and chair throwing ...

Early excitement almost always wears off. Relationships. Restaurants. Blogs. But if it sustains a bit of interest, you've found something. Habby burf day *hic*.

@ Mr. Cheen: You need to publish more, sir.

"incomprehensible stains on my night dress" I've heard of sleep walking but sleep roller skating? Go to bed with skates on? Don't answer, I enjoy the mystery.

bill lisleman said...

Enjoying your lovely comment section once again. I have a few blog offsprings. One suffers from being slower than normal. Slow, small but yet more interesting at times.

Happy happy bloggy birthday. I always love coming here because I never know what I'm going to find and for sure this is a classic post - isn't that what good blogs are all about. Now Im just thinking about all the people i started with, I think they're pretty much just doing facebook and instagram these days. Now I'm feeling like a dinosaur.

We're off to see James soon...wonder if we'll be sitting down? Like all good relationships, when the fizz goes out of it, there's still reason enough to keep it going. Happy Blogbirthday!

The excitement wanes but the friendship remains. A bientot!

Indigo Roth said...

Ms. Blue, ah yes. I know this feeling. I originally started my blog to capture fun (and very creative) conversations from Twitter that would otherwise go the way of that big fat bird from Mauritius. That in itself was fun, and slowly the comments and interaction came. It was a pretty nice time. Now it's all I can do to get a buzz from posting a few photos. Good job I wrote a book and published it in the meantime =) Indigo x

Ms Scarlet said...

Mr Mags: I am a bit worried about Prinny... she doesn't usually leave it this long, nor does Mitzi. Ms Nations is doing it large on Facebook! She is fine and is showing off her well trimmed bushes.

Ms Scarlet said...

Pat: And as time goes by the friendships get stronger.

When I started my blog here on Blogger back in 2007 I had about 4 readers, now I have about 14. No, a few more, but I don't really remember feeling the excitement you mentioned when I started out, or now. I think I've just been consistently boring really. :D I'm really into Pinterest now there are more men on there, and I find that's the first place I click on when I turn the computer on, but I still enjoy blogging too, but I just go with the flow. But I don't do facebook or Twitter, so I tend to focus on my blogs or Pinterest. If I have nothing to say I pin and if I need to write, I post. It's all good.

Happy anniversary!

We started at almost exactly the same time - I also thought of it as a 'private/no-one will ever see this' thing. I didn't know there could be comments or followers. It's been fun learning xxxxx

Mr Joey: I am on Pinterest! But I'm sort of going off it... I have waves of interest and then it tails off... but that sort of sums me up!

Lulu: We just never know what we're letting ourselves in for when we start these things... it's been a roller coaster!

Ms Rosemarie: Thank you! It's definitely been an experience!

Does it work? This is something I ask myself, and others, several times a day.... the answer is always a little bit suspect and dependent on knob turning ability.
I hope this answers your question.
